recovery is choosing to live over and over again. some days it’s easier and may not really require any effort at all, some days it requires a lot. but soon those first kind of days will outnumber the other ones by a tenfold. though the work remains, it reminds you of the things you live for, you may even call it some kind of blessing. recovery makes life better than it was before it got worse. recovery makes you better.

putting effort into self care can be so damn hard when you have depression and other mental illnesses. you might think it’s easier to give up and go back to the harmful coping mechanisms and to the negative mindset - it’s not, it’s just the little hell that you’re familiar with. it can be comforting, because you know what to expect, but it’s horribly difficult to survive in it and you’ll only notice it after you leave it for a while, then you’ll wonder how the fuck could you live like that for so long

Yes!!! Unbelievably hard work but there’s no other choice

you can still radiate light if you’re sad. you can still be kind and soft-hearted if you’re a bit cynical. you don’t need to be the happiest person to make someone else’s day better.

Once you stop trying to entertain this imaginary audience and start living for yourself things should get a bit better

just in case you need to be reminded

  • dont check up on your ex partner
  • dont check up on your ex friend
  • dont do it
  • it is not productive
  • you are better than that

All our difficult times involve some degree of shame, fear, and loneliness. At times like that, we don’t need anyone to impress us or skillfully talk us out of our pain. We mostly just need the kindness that compels anyone to try.
